Thank you so much for stopping by!!

I wish I had more light in my dining room – I love natural light and that is just one area that has hardly ANY so I always like to make the table as festive and cheery as possible!  Here’s another easy and inexpensive Valentine’s craft for you.  Two actually!  A Valentine’s Table Runner and a super easy Valentine’s wreath.

For the table runner:  First, I cut two rectangles of red fabric I had leftover from Christmas - one for each end of the table runner.   17″ across to give me a half inch for a hem on each side (since my table runner will end up being 16″ wide) and about 14″ tall.

I started with some $1 heart doilies from the dollar store.

I taped down a doily in the middle of one of the red rectangles.

After taping the doily, I used some white fabric paint from my stash to quickly fill in all of the little “holes” and cut outs…

and then carefully removed the tape and doily.

I followed by taping down several more doilies and repeating repeating with the paint on each.  You could lay out the doilies in any pattern you like.

Tip: remove each doily quickly as the paper is really thin and will stick to the paint and tear.  I used two coats of paint on the first middle heart and decided to only use one on the rest of the hearts for just that reason.  A little messy but fortunately I was able to peel the paper off where it tore and stuck!  This is a little rustic anyway so it works!  I then repeated the process on the second red rectangle.

I used stamps to add the word L-O-V-E. in the middle heart and set that aside to dry for a bit.

For the length of the runner, I bought 2 yards of fabric on sale at JoAnn AND I had a coupon for 25% off the entire purchase so the fabric ended up only costing about $6.00!  I cut the fabric to be 17″ across and 6 feet in length.  You will need to determine how long you want your runner based on your table size.  I sewed a simple zig zag hem stitch down both sides to prevent fraying and used red thread so it doesn’t even show!  Fast & easy!  And I still have a lot of fabric left too.

Once the paint was dry, I sewed the same type of hem on all but one long side  (the top) of each red rectangle end piece, and then attached them to the runner  also using a zig zag stitch to prevent fraying.  I sewed another straight stitch, which doesn’t really show to make sure the hem laid flat where the pieces were attached.

And that’s it – a simple Valentine’s table runner for about $7!   I did take a picture inside but, due to the not great lighting, I also photographed it outside so it was easier to see!

For the little Valentine’s wreath, I used a smaller round pepper berry wreath from my Christmas decor.

I gently bent the wreath into a heart shape…

And then added some $1 felt heart stickers from JoAnn.  Done!

It really makes for a sweet little Valentine’s tablescape with my festive new runner!

What a great idea. I too have one of those wreaths that would look cool with hearts on it. :)
