Can you tell this Irish girl is loving the St. Patrick’s Day crafts? For Valentine’s Day I hit the dollar store and made some super cute and cheap dish towels.
For St. Patrick’s Day I wanted to make some easy dollar store hand towels for the guest bathroom. Using dollar store white hand towels, a little green ribbon and some of the leftover fabric from my St. Patricks Day throw pillow, I was able to make these for just over $1 / towel!
These really were super fast and only took about a half an hour to make the first one, and that included cutting the fabric for both since I am making two towels. First, I cut strips of the fabric and ribbon to cover the “built in” lower border of each towel. I left room for each to wrap slightly around the towel on each side.
I folded over a little hem on each long side of the fabric strips and pinned it across the bottom of the towel. It wraps around on each side of the towel by a couple of inches. Had to show a picture of the pins since I somehow picked all green pins as I was pinning it – clearly I have OCD (Over CLAIREification Disorder!).
I sewed the fabric strips onto each towel across the already “built in border” at the bottom of the towels. I used a zig zag stitch on the bottom since the ribbon will cover that, and I used a straight stitch on the top. I used green thread because it was already loaded in my machine but you could use white.
Then I pinned the ribbon to cover the bottom zig zag stitch.
I attached the ribbon using a straight stitch and that was that! A cute little St. Patrick’s Day hand towel for the bathroom!
I took the picture outside since the light is so much better than in our guest bathroom. So easy and cheap I don’t mind at all if the boys use them too!
Off to make the second one now.
Let me know if you are working on any projects or St. Patricks Day crafts for kids too!
xoxo,
Claire
