Some of you know I have been working on my back patio makeover for a while now. Things were moving along pretty well but I’ll admit we lost a little steam once Summer really kicked in.
It’s been a little nuts with kids running here and there and Summer activities, family visits, the holiday weekend and more!
I finally got some free time to work on a couple of my outdoor beach inspired patio curtains and I am so happy with the way they have turned out. Since I have been working with a rustic, beach inspired theme, I was super excited to receive some fantastic craft supplies from the David Tutera Casual Elegance line. Talk about a bunch of gorgeous things!
After looking through everything, I just knew that one of the fabulous burlap ribbons would be perfect with my patio theme so I set those aside immediately.
I took a cheap 6′ x 9′ canvas drop cloth and cut it in half to make two curtain panels. Did you know that canvas tears in a straight line? So easy!
I folded over the top of each panel making an 8″ flap in front, and then pinned it 2″ down from the fold so I could sew a seam for my curtain rod.
This might go against what you would normally do since you can see the nice hem that comes on the drop cloth is exposed in front on the wrong side. Never fear. 🙂 Next I took the David Tutera Burlap Ribbon that resembles netting – how perfect for my beachy theme??
I laid that out along the hem of the top flap so the top flap will hang down in front and have this netting along the edge – perfect! Pinned and sewed it on with a zig zag stitch.
I hung the curtains together across the center beam of my patio. Using some more of the David Tutera Burlap Ribbon, I created an easy tie back to hold the two curtain panels together.
Then it was time to add some of the starfish I had leftover from my Starfish Garland project into the top trim and the tie back.
The starfish look absolutely beautiful in the burlap garland!! I think it might be time for a party!!
