I am well aware that this might be the post that does it. The post where you say “Ok, Claire has gotten too much sun” or “Oh, bless her sweet little heart”.
So… in light of this 4th Of July Sun Hat project, let’s back up for a minute to the Kentucky Derby. Did you watch the race this year? I did not see it until later but spent at LEAST ten minutes looking at pictures of the famous “Derby Hats”.
No, I will never get that 10 minutes of my life back but I was thoroughly amused by how creative people can get when it comes to creating their own hats.
I mean, for real. They should all be bloggers, at least for Derby Day, right? And what do they DO with these enormous hats afterwards??
See, a crafty blogger would repurpose them into a planter or a wreath or maybe even wall art or a tablescape. Or Lego storage.
Anyway, with a few Dollar Store supplies I was inspired to make a little 4th of July hat.
Seriously, this is so easy to make and now I may have to make one for every holiday. Well, maybe not for Christmas. But I’m not making any promises.
I used hot glue to secure jute twine around the hat. Please don’t burn your fingers. We are “ladies”, after all.
Next I added some fun patriotic washi tape. You could also use “Duck” tape like I used on my 4th Of July Dollar Store Planters. Now I know at this point you are thinking “Can it possibly get any more fun (read: tacky) than this?!”
You bet your stars and stripes, it can.
Just for fun (and in honor of those “Derby Hat Divas” everywhere) I decided to hot glue a few Dollar Store flowers on to the back.
Now in comparison to this…
… doesn’t my hat look pretty reasonable?
You can create your own holiday hat for only a few bucks and won’t YOU just be the “Belle Of The BBQ”??
Have you ever made a fun hat for the 4th of July or for any holiday? I absolutely
need validation need to hear all about it. I’ll be the one in the pool with the crazy hat.
Happy weekend, my friends!
