Ahh, juicy peaches. There isn’t much that screams Summer more than a kid with sticky fingers and peach juice running down his chin. Unless of course he has an ice cream cone in the other hand, right? It just seemed like a perfect time to make some Homemade Cinnamon Peach Ice Cream.
Ok, the back story. Because you know there always is one.
We’ve pretty much always had an ice cream maker. You know, the kind where you add rock salt? I seem to recall my Dad hand churning the ice cream when I was growing up. I also remember that the ice cream maker would be sitting in the tub, which is quite funny to me now.
Years later, after the stone age, the Husband and I got an electric ice cream maker. It was still the rock salt variety but at least no hand churning, right?
This was a breakthrough. I think it was right around the time they invented the wheel or something.
Well I guess we’ve “finally arrived” because a few weeks ago I got a REAL electric ice cream maker – no more rock salt, kids – and I have been dying to try it out. The problem is, the Hubs is in the middle of a major weight loss challenge for the month of July so I wanted to make something slightly healthier.
Go ahead – tell me what a thoughtful wife I am. I know, I know. Thank you. Anyway, I grabbed a bottle of Peach Lifeway Kefir Lowfat Cultured Smoothie which we can find at our local Winn Dixie – it’s right in the dairy aisle.
They have other flavors too like blueberry and strawberry or you can even get the plain variety and create your own ice cream flavors, but I was going for peach.
I cannot really explain how easy this ice cream is to make. Seriously the Peach Lifeway Kefir mixed with a little heavy cream, sweetener (I used stevia), a little cinnamon and fresh diced peaches added to my (fancy) ice cream maker and… whoa. What is this magic??
I added a few more diced peaches on top and you can add more or less sweetener to this recipe depending on your taste.
Not only was I able to cut back on the amount of heavy cream, the Lifeway Kefir Cultured Milk Smoothies contain 12 live and active Probiotic cultures that support the immune system and balance digestive health. I also had no idea that they are also naturally gluten free and 99% lactose free which I know can be a concern for a lot of people.
You can find coupons for Lifeway Kefir HERE if you want to try it out and the recipe is below. The end result is delicious and this Cinnamon Peach Ice Cream is a keeper. Can’t wait to try making other ice cream flavors and #KefirCreations!
Especially now that we don’t have to hand crank it in a
cave bathtub anymore. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

- In a medium bowl combine the Peach Kefir, Cream, sweetener and cinnamon.
- Taste for sweetness and adjust as needed.
