Hi everyone, it’s Cindy from Little Miss Celebration! I always think Memorial Day is not only the unofficial start of summer, it also kicks off more than a month of celebrating the red, white and blue! I like to deck the house and outdoors with a patriotic touch that we can enjoy right up to July 4th.
These Red White & Blue Cupcake Liner Trees are an easy way to start the celebration! These patriotic trees can go anywhere and will make a great July 4th centerpiece, too!
Start with a pack or two of cupcake liners in red, white and blue. I found these liners at Hobby Lobby. They come in packs of 50 and for the three trees, I used about 75 liners. With a pair of sharp scissors, cut up the side of a liner along a fold until you reach the center portion and cut away the entire center, or bottom, of the cupcake liner, so you’re left with just the pleated side. You can easily cut 2-3 liners at a time, so it goes quickly!
We’re using Styrofoam cones and lots of straight pins! Use any sized cones that you like; I like different heights, so I used one each of 11 7/8”, 8 7/8” and 5”.
Start at the bottom of the cone with the cupcake liner touching the surface of the table and attach to the cone with straight pins. Attach liners all around the cone, adding additional pieces as needed and trim.
You can make some additional small folds if you like, to make the liners completely flat against the cone. I like the topsy-turvy look if they are a little off balance, though!
Continue pinning liners to the cone, layer by layer, spacing each layer as far apart as you like.
When you get to the top of the cone, create an extra layer to finish tree by cutting a piece of cupcake liner to fit at the top and glue the liner to hold a circular shape. Add the top piece with a tiny bit of glue.
I think you all know I love my pompoms and they make a fun topper for the trees! I made the same 1 ½” sized pompom for the top of each tree.
Use whatever red, white or blue yarn you have on hand. I bought this red, white and blue tri-colored cotton yarn last year and used it for these pompoms.
Once the pompoms are made and trimmed, attach them with some craft glue to a toothpick or a wooden skewer cut to size.
Push the toothpick or skewer into the top of the foam cone and your red, white & blue cupcake liner tree is finished!
I’m working some new July 4th projects right now, but here are a few other red, white & blue ideas to get your patriotic creativity flowing!
This will be my last regular visit at A Little Claireification. Sniff, sniff! My first project for Claire was red, white & blue one year ago and I’m leaving on the same colors.
I have totally enjoyed the past year and want to send a big hug to Claire for having me here each month and to all of you for allowing me to share my crafts! Claire was one of my very first bloggy friends and has been so wonderfully supportive for the past few years – thank you, my dear friend!
Work, family and blog demands are many, but I’ll still be the glitter covered gal with a stray pompom stuck somewhere in my hair, crafting & cooking over at Little Miss Celebration and you are always welcome! We never know, you might see me back with a project sometime in the future! 🙂
Have a wonderful summer, everyone. Love you, Claire!
