Just writing this post makes me long for summer and a good old fashioned “fish fry”. One of the weddings we are attending in a couple of weeks is going to be very rustic and “outdoorsy”. The groom AND the bride both love fishing so I thought some Fishing Themed Wedding Favors were in order.
In doing a little research I was surprised how many people actually DO have fishing themed weddings! I have certainly heard of beach or nautical themed weddings but fishing??
Of course our idea of “roughing it” is when the AC breaks down in a hotel so, hey. I learn something new everyday.
I guess we need to get with it and look into an RV or something but that will be a story for another day. In the year 2026, or so. “Save the date”, my friends.
Now cooking fish is so quick and easy, and you don’t even have to go outside if you don’t want to. This Cajun inspired fish rub also happens to be quite delicious on just about anything you can hold down long enough to cook.
Which is probably why Mr. Claire is hiding right now. 😉
Supplies you will need (afil links included):
- Mason Jars – I used 4 oz. Ball Jars (but you might consider these 2 oz. jars
if you are making a lot)
- Bulk Spices – you can find every spice you need online if you don’t have access to a bulk store
- Printable labels (provided below)
- Fish Hook Pendants for embellishing (optional)
- Bakers Twine (optional)
To assemble: Cut out your labels and glue one to the top of each metal lid. If your jars have a standard two part lid, the ring will also help hold the label down. If you are attaching the decorative hooks, use the twine to tie them onto the lid. Fill the jars with the spice rub and seal tightly.
Here’s the spice rub recipe and just note this makes one cup (which fills THREE 4 oz. mason jars just to the bottom line) so depending on how many favors you are making you’ll need to multiply the quantities.
- 1⁄4 cup chili powder
- 1⁄4 cup paprika
- 2 tablespoons onion powder
- 2 tablespoons garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon cayenne pepper
- 2 teaspoons ground cumin
- 6 tablespoons Italian seasoning (Basil, Oregano, Thyme)
- 1 teaspoon dried parsley
- 1 tablespoon black pepper
- Combine all of the ingredients in a small bowl.
- Seal tightly in a jar and store in a dark pantry or refrigerator for up to six months.
- Alternately, you can store for a year in the freezer if it is sealed tightly.
Now these would be great gifts for the groomsmen as well but if you are making 100 of these, you might want to go with the 2 oz jars.
I also had to share this Gone Fishing Cake Topper I found along the way because how stinking adorable is this??
Here are the free labels to download. Two choices that read “Two Less Fish In The Sea” or “We Just Got Hooked”.
